About
Welcome to my creative corner of the internet; a pocket of calm filled with beautiful hand sewn projects, super beginner friendly sewing patterns and oodles of sewing inspiration.
Creativity has always been part of my life, and I’ve run my own creative agency for the past 21 years with my brilliantly patient husband Al. Sewing is a newer chapter, and one that’s completely changed my world.
I came to sewing only a couple of years ago. My mum, Jo, was brilliant at sewing and knitting. After she passed away, I inherited her sewing machine. It sat in a cupboard for seven years before I finally took it out and decided to teach myself to sew. That moment sparked something, and Curious Handmade grew from there.
So whether you’re starting out sewing, building your confidence or wanting to reignite a long lost sewing mojo, this is the space for you. You’ll find super beginner friendly patterns, brilliant tips, useful downloads and a small quantity of handmade gifts.
Curious Handmade is about more than making things. I want to make sewing feel achievable and enjoyable for all. It’s about creating something for yourself, taking time out, ditching the doom scrolling and discovering the sheer joy that comes from making something for yourself or to gift to a loved one.
Thanks for being here.
Meet the girls!
Each Curious Handmade piece is made in small batches using carefully chosen fabrics. Each fabric has her own name – inspired by the kind of brilliant women who first taught so many of us to sew. Mums, grannies, aunties… the ones who showed us how to thread a needle, fix a hem or just have a go.
From Barbs to Sybil, Clara to Queenie, Connie and Hattie to Myrtle and Flossie, every fabric has her own personality and once she’s gone, she’s gone. Which one is your favourite?
